Q. In which type of material the magnetic susceptibility does not depend on temperature?

AFMCAFMC 2007

Solution:

The magnetic susceptibility of a material is a measure of the 'ease' with which a specimen of that material can be magnetised in a magnetising field. For a diamagnetic substance magnetic susceptibility $\left(\chi_{m}\right)$ is independent of temperature.
According to Curie's law $\chi_{m}$ for paramagnetic and ferromagnetic materials varies as $\chi_{m} \propto \frac{1}{T}, T$ being temperature in Kelvin.
