Q.
In which, mitosis does not occur?
Chhattisgarh PMTChhattisgarh PMT 2005
Solution:
In bacteria, mitosis does not occur. In these cells division is amitosis.
Amitosis ($Gk$, Amitos $=$ without thread; os is $=$ state).
It was discovered by Remark $(1855)$ in RBC of chick embryo. In this division, there is no differentiation of chromosomes and spindle. The nuclear envelope does not degenerate. The nucleus elongates and constricts in the middle to form two daughter nuclei. This is followed by a centripetal constriction of the cytoplasm to form two daughter cells. It is primitive type of division occurring in prokaryotes, protozoans, yeast, cartilage of mammals etc.
