Q. In the reaction, $M + O _{2} \rightarrow MO _{2}$ (superoxide), the metal $( M )$ is:

The s-Block Elements

Solution:

As the size of metal ion increase, tendency to form superoxide increase. Since; superoxide is $MO _{2}$ type, it is clear it is alkali metal superoxide. In superoxide, oxygen is in $O _{2}^{-}$ form. Hence. it is potassium superoxide $\left( KO _{2}\right)$.
