Q. In the reaction, $AB(g) \rightleftharpoons A(g) +B(g)$ at $30^\circ C,K_p$ for the dissociation equilibrium is $2.56 \times 10^{-2} atm.$ if the total pressure at equilibrium is 1 atm, then the percentage dissociation of AB is

KEAMKEAM 2011Equilibrium

Solution:

$AB(g) \rightarrow A(g)+B(g)$
$ K_p = \frac{\alpha^2 p}{1-\alpha^2}=2.56 \times 10^{-2} atm$
$ = \frac{\alpha^2 \times 1\, atm}{1-\alpha^2}=2.56 \times 10^{-2} atm$
$ \alpha = 0.16 $
$ = 16 \% $
