The flux used in the extraction of iron from haematite in the blast furnace is a basic flux, lime stone $\left( CaCO _{3}\right) \cdot Ca _{3}\left( PO _{4}\right)_{2}$ present in lime stone reacts with $SiO _{2}$ to produce slag.
