Q. In the given circuit, the current through zener diode is :Physics Question Image

JEE MainJEE Main 2018Semiconductor Electronics: Materials Devices and Simple Circuits

Solution:

Voltage across $R_{1}$ is given by
$V_{R_{1}}=V-V_{ z }=15-10=5 V$. Resistance $R_{1}=500\, \Omega$
image
Therefore, current through $R_{1}$ is given by
$I_{R_{1}}=\frac{5 V }{500 \Omega}=0.01\, A$.
Now current through $R_{2}$ is given by
$I_{R_{2}}=\frac{10 V }{1500 \Omega}=0.067\, A$.
Therefore, the current through Zener diode will be
$0.01-0.0067=0.0033\, A =3.3\, mA$
