In the extraction of copper from its sulphide ore, copper is obtained finally by oxidation of cuprous sulphide with $Cu _{2} O$.

$Cu _{2} S +\frac{3}{2} O _{2} \rightarrow Cu _{2} O + SO _{2} \uparrow$

$Cu _{2} S +2 Cu _{2} O \rightarrow 6 Cu ( I )+ SO _{2} \uparrow$
