Q. In the balanced equation of the following reaction, the ratio of $a / b$ is a
$aCaCO _3+ bH _3 PO _4 \rightarrow pCa _3\left( PO _4\right)_2+ qCO _2+ rH _2 O$

TS EAMCET 2021

Solution:

The given reaction is an acid-base reaction (neutralisation)
$CaCO _3$ is a base, $H _3 PO _4$ is an acid.
$\underset{\text { Calcium carbonate }}{3 CaCO _3}+\underset{\text { Phosphoric acid }}{2 H _3 PO _4} \rightarrow \underset{\text { Calcium phosphate }}{ Ca _3\left( PO _4\right)_2}+\underset{\text { Carbonic acid }}{3 H _2 CO _3}$
or $\underset{\text { Base }}{3 CaCO _3}+\underset{\text { acid }}{2 H _3 PO _4} \rightarrow Ca _3\left( PO _4\right)_2+3 CO _2+3 H _2 O$
Calcium carbonate reacts with phosphoric acid to produce calcium phosphate, carbon dioxide and water.
Here, $a=3, b=2, p=1, q=3, r=3$
Now ratio of $\frac{a}{b}$ is $\frac{3}{2}$.
