Q. In single slit experiment, the width of the slit is reduced. Then, the linear width of the principal maxima

KCETKCET 2012Wave Optics

Solution:

If width of slit is reduced in a single slit diffraction.
Width of central maxima $\beta=\frac{2 \lambda D}{a}$ will increase but intensity of central maxima will decrease less number of waves will superpose at the centre.
