Solution:

Instead of the usual 46 chromosomes present in each cell, it is observed that 47 chromosomes will be present in the cells of individuals with Down's syndrome (Mongolism). Down’s syndrome is caused by the presence of an extra chromosome number 21 (autosomal trisomy).
