Q. In meiosis there occurs normally

Cell Cycle and Cell Division

Solution:

Meiosis is the type of cell division by which germ cells (eggs and sperms) are produced. Meiosis involves two successive nuclear divisions and one cytoplasmic division that produce four haploid cells. The first division (meiosis I) is the reduction division; the second division (meiosis II) separates the chromatids.Meiosis reduces the chromosome number to half during the formation of gametes in animals. During the first meiotic "reduction division," the chromosomal pairs are partitioned so that each gamete contains one of each chromosomal pair, i.e. , it is haploid. When haploid gametes unite during fertilisation, the resulting zygote is diploid, having received one chromosome of each pair from each parent.
