Q. In Kreb's cycle, the conversion of oxalosuccinate into $\alpha -$ ketoglutarate involves ________ reaction.

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

During Kreb's cycle, the oxalosuccinic acid loses a molecule of CO2 (decarboxylation) and as a result, α-ketoglutaric acid (5-carbon compound) is produced (one carbon atom has been removed in the form of CO2). In the presence of CoA, NAD+ and enzyme dehydrogenase, α-ketoglutaric acid is converted into Succinyl CoA (4-carbon) and one carbon is lost in the form of CO2. NAD+ is reduced to NADH.
