In cockroach, the ootheca is formed by the secretion of collaterial gland. The collaterial gland pour their secretions over the inner surface of the vestibulum to form the ootheca which becomes filled with eggs, one passing from each ovariole. Thus, 16 eggs are laid into a single ootheca.
