Q. In $C_{3}-$ plants, the first stable compound formed after $CO_{2}$ fixation is

Solution:

The plants fix atmospheric $O _{2}$ by a biosynthetic pathway called $C _{3}$ cycle. In this, $CO _{2}$ combines with RuBP [ribulose bisphosphate $(5C)$ to form $2$ molecules of $3$ carbon compound $3$ phosphoglyceric acid $(3PGA)$ or $3$ phosphoglycerate. This reaction is catalysed by RuBP carboxylase enzyme.
