Q. In an experiment on photoelectric effect, the frequency $f$ of incident light is plotted against the stopping potential $V_{0}$. The work-function of the photoelectric surface is given byPhysics Question Image

Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter

Solution:

By Einstein's equation,
we have $e V_{0}=h v-\phi_{0} $
or $ V_{0}=\frac{h}{e} v-\frac{\phi_{0}}{e}$
Above is a equation of straight line $(y=m x+c)$
with slope $\frac{h}{e}$ and $y$-intercept $=\frac{\phi_{0}}{e}$
$\therefore$ Work function, $\phi_{0}=e \times$ intercept $( eV )$
