Q. In a vessel containing $SO_{3}, SO_{2}$ and $O_{2}$ at equilibrium, some helium gas is introduced so that the total pressure increases while temperature and volume remains constant. According to Le-Chatelier principle, the dissociation of $SO_{3}$

Equilibrium

Solution:

$2 SO_{3} \rightleftharpoons 2SO_{2} +O_{2}$
$\Delta H = +$ v e endothermic reaction
Inert gas doesn’t show reaction with the reacting mixture it shows effect only due to its volume. At constant volume the change doesn’t effect the inert gas. Thus dissociation of $SO_{3}$ remains unchanged.
$V= $constant $= \Delta n = 0$ No effect on the inert gas.
