Q. In a reaction between A and B, the initial rate of reaction was measured for different initial concentration A and B as:
A in mol $L^{-1}$ B in mol $L^{-1}$ Initial rate in mol $L^{-1} \times s$
0.2 0.3 $5.07\times 10^{-5}$
0.2 0.1 $5.07\times 10^{-5}$
0.4 0.05 $1.43\times 10^{-4}$

Find the order of reaction with respect to A and B.

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

Rate of reaction $=k\left[A\right]^{m}\left[B\right]^{n}$
$5.07\times 10^{- 5}=k\left[0 .2\right]^{m}\left[0 .3\right]^{n}$
$5.07\times 10^{- 5}=k\left[0 .2\right]^{m}\left[0 .1\right]^{n}$
$1.43\times 10^{- 4}=k\left[0 .4\right]^{m}\left[0 .05\right]^{n}$
On solving,
$m=1.5,n=0$
