Q. In a $R C$ circuit, the time required for the charge on a capacitor to build up to a given fraction of its steady state value, is independent of:

Current Electricity

Solution:

The charge on capacitor as a function of time is given as
$q=C V e^{-t / R C}$
Here $C V=q_{0}$ is termed as steady state charge or equilibrium charge so if we use $q=f q_{0}$ then from above relation we get time taken for charge to grow upto f fraction of its steady state value which is given as $t=R C \ln (1 / f)$ which is independent of applied EMF.
