Q. If two tuning forks $A$ and $B$ are sounded together, they produce $4$ beats per second. $A$ is then slightly loaded with wax, they produce $2$ beats when sounded again. The frequency of $A$ is $256$ . The frequency of $B$ will be

Solution:

Known frequency, $n_{A}=256Hz \, $
Unknown frequency, $n_{B}=?$
Beats $x=4$ bps, which is decreasing after loading (i.e. $x$ decreases)
We also know that the tuning fork $A$ is loaded so $n_{A}$ decreases
Hence $n_{A}-n_{B}=x$ (decreases) ......(i) Correct
$n_{B}-n_{A}=x$ (increases)......(ii) Wrong
$n_{B}=n_{A}-x=252Hz$
