Q. If the surface tension of water is $0.06\, N\, m^{-1}$, then the capillary rise in a tube of a diameter 1 mm is (Take $\theta$ = 0°)

JIPMERJIPMER 2013Mechanical Properties of Fluids

Solution:

As $ h = \frac{ 2S \,\cos \, \theta}{r \rho g}$
= $\frac{ 2 \times 0.06 \times \cos \, 0^\circ}{0.5 \times 10^{-3} \times 10^3 \times 9.8}$
= $2.44 \times 10^{-2} \, m = 2.44 \, cm$
