Q. If the solubility(s) of $\left(AgCl\right)_{\left(\right. s \left.\right)}$ in $0.1M\,NaCl$ solution is $a\,X\,10^{- 10}$ , then what will be the value of $'a'$ if the given solubility product of $AgCl\,$ is $1.6\,x\,10^{- 10}$ ?

Solution:

$\left(AgCl\right)_{\left(\right. s \left.\right)}\_{\left(\right. aq \left.\right)}^{+}+Cl_{\left(\right. aq \left.\right)}^{-}$
Concentration $-$
$SS+0.1$ $\left(M\right)$
$K_{sp}=\left[Ag^{+}\right]\left[Cl^{-}\right]$
$\therefore 1.6\times \left(10\right)^{- 10}=\left(\right.S\left.\right)\left(\right.S+0.1\left.\right)$
$\therefore 1.6\times \left(10\right)^{- 10}=S\times 0.1\left(\right.\because S < < 0.1\left.\right)$
$\therefore S=16\times 10^{- 10}M$
