Q. If the point dividing internally the line segment joining the points $(a, b)$ and $(5, 7)$ in the ratio $2 : 1$ be $(4, 6)$, then $a \times b$ is

Straight Lines

Solution:

$\because$ the point dividing internally the line segment joining the point $(a, b)$ and $(5,7)$ in the ratio $2 : 1$ be $(4,6)$.
$\therefore \frac{ 2 \times 5 + 1(a)}{ 2 + 1} = 4$
$\Rightarrow a = 2$
and $\frac{2 \times 7 + 1(b)}{ 2 +1} = 6$
$\Rightarrow b = 4$.
