Q. If the length of a conductor is halved, then the conductance will be:

Bihar CECEBihar CECE 2001Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance

Solution:

Conductance of a conductor is reciprocal of its resistance,
$ \text{Conductance}\,\text{=}\,\frac{\text{1}}{\text{resistance}} $
Since, resistance $ =\frac{\rho l}{A} $
$ \therefore $ $ \text{Conductance}\,\propto \frac{\text{1}}{\text{length}\,\text{of}\,\text{conductor}} $
Thus, when length of a conductor is halved, then its conductance will be doubled.
