Q. If the coordinates of the middle point of the portion of a line intercepted between the coordinate axes is $(3,2)$, then the equation of the line will be

Straight Lines

Solution:

Equation of line making intercepts $a$ and $b$ with $x$ and $y$-axes is
$\frac{x}{a}+\frac{y}{b}=1\quad\ldots\left(i\right)$

Here, we have
$\frac{a+0}{2}=3$,
$\frac{b+0}{2}=2$
$\Rightarrow a = 6$,
$b = 4$
Putting these values in $\left(i\right)$, we get
$\frac{x}{6}+\frac{y}{4}=1$
$\Rightarrow 2x + 3y = 12$
