Q. If the concentration is expressed in mole per litre, the unit of rate constant for a first order reaction is:

J & K CETJ & K CET 2000

Solution:

For first order reaction:
Rate $=\frac{d x}{d t} k[A] $
$k=\frac{\text { mol } \,L^{-1} \,s^{-1}}{\text { mol }\, L^{-1}}=s^{-1}$
Hence, for first order reaction unit of rate constant is $\sec ^{-1}$.
