Q. If $ p{{K}_{w}}=13.36 $ at $ 50{}^\circ C, $ the pH of pure water at the same temperature is:

KEAMKEAM 2001

Solution:

$ p{{K}_{w}}=13.36 $ (temperature $ =50{}^\circ C $ )
pH of water = ? (temperature $ =50{}^\circ C $ )
$ p{{K}_{w}}=pH+pOH $ (for pure water $ pH=pOH $ )
$ \therefore $ $ p{{K}_{w}}=2pH $
By putting the values $ 13.36=2\times pH $
$ pH=\frac{13.36}{2}=6.68 $
