Respiration is a process of gaseous exchange whereby oxygen is usually absorbed from the atmosphere and $ CO_{2} $ is usually evolved, when organic matter is broken down in the cell with consequent release of energy. If oxygen content is reduced to $1\%$ the rate of respiration becomes minimum.
