Q. If for a sucrose solution, elevation in boiling point is $0.1^{\circ} C, $ then what will be the boiling point of $NaCl$ solution for same molal concentration?

JIPMERJIPMER 2006Solutions

Solution:

Elevation in boiling point is a colligative property as it depends upon the number of particles.
$\Delta T_{b} \propto n$
For sucrose, $n=1,\, \Delta T_{b}=0.1^{\circ} C$
For $NaCl,\, n=2,\, \Delta T_{b}=0.2^{\circ} C$
