The animals which have very high number of rod cells, can see in dark because rod cells are highly sensitive for light. The rods are present in owl, bat etc. The rod cells contain pigments called rhodopsin, made up of protein (scotopsin) and pigment (rctinol). Rhodopsin splits into scotopsin and rctinol in strong light so these animals cannot see in day.
