Q. If a gas absorbs 200 J of heat and expand by $ 500\,c{{m}^{3}} $ against a constant pressure of $ 2\times {{10}^{5}}N{{m}^{-2}}, $ the change in internal energy is:

JIPMERJIPMER 1995

Solution:

From first law of thermodynamics,
Change in internal energy is
$\Delta U=q-w=q-P \Delta V$
$=200-2 \times 10^{5} \times 500 \times 10^{-6}$
$=100 J$
