Q. If a $25.0\, mL$ sample of sulfuric acid is titrated with $50.0\, mL$ of $0.025 \,M$ sodium hydroxide to a phenolphthalein endpoint, what is the molarity of the acid?

BITSATBITSAT 2017

Solution:

$M _{1} \,V _{1}= M _{2} \,V _{2}$
$(0 \cdot 025 M )(0 \cdot 050 \, L )=\left( M _{2}\right)(0 \cdot 025 \,L )$
$M _{2}=0 \cdot 05 \, M$
but, there are $2 H$ 's per $H _{2} SO _{4}$ so $\left[ H _{2} SO _{4}\right]$
$=0.025 \, M$
