Q. If $_{92}U^{238}$ undergoes successively $8\, \alpha$-decays and $6\, \beta$-decays, then the resulting nucleus is

Solution:

Due to $8 \alpha$ -decays, the atomic mass decreases by $32$ and atomic number will reduce by $16 .$
And due to $6 \beta$ -decays, the atomic number increases by $6$ .
Therefore resulting nucleus is ${ }_{82} U ^{206}$.
