Q. If $1\, g$ of hydrogen is converted into $0.993\, g$ of helium in a thermonuclear reaction, then the energy released in this reaction will be:

Solution:

$\Delta m=1-0.993=0.007 gm$
$\therefore E=(\Delta m) c^{2}=\left(0.007 \times 10^{-3}\right)\left(3 \times 10^{8}\right)^{2}$
$=63 \times 10^{10} J$
