Green Revolution was the time when Indian traditional agriculture system was replaced by modern HYV seeds and mechanisation introduced in the agricultural fields.
Due to Green Revolution agricultural productivity increased, the economic condition of farmers improved and import of food grain decreased. In many other ways, the Green Revolution influenced the life in India.
Dr. M. S. Swaminathan is considered as the father of Indian Green Revolution.
Genetic variability consists of all the genetic material of a plant species inherited from ancestor species cross overs.
Evaluation and selection of parents in breeding is done by the observing the characteristics. By observation, we can easily decide which parent is superior, i.e., which one is producing quality products in large numbers and are less prone to diseases.
Hybrid is defined as the offspring of two plants or animals of different species or varieties, such as a mule. It is necessary that hybrids always show desirable characteristics in order to form a new variety.
