Q. Identify the correct order of boiling points of the following compounds:
$CH _{3} CH _{2} CH _{2} CH _{2} OH$ (I)
$CH _{3} CH _{2} CH _{2} CHO$ (II)
$CH _{3} CH _{2} CH _{2} COOH$ (III)

Alcohols Phenols and Ethers

Solution:

Stronger the H-bonding, more is the boiling point. Acids have stronger H-bond than alcohols while aldehydes do not show H-bonding. So the order of decreasing boiling point is $III >I >II$
