Q. Hypothalamus does not control

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020

Solution:

Hypothalamus is a part of the brain that is present in the posterior part of the forebrain. It connects the midbrain with the cerebral hemisphere and encloses the third ventricle. It is a very small part of the brain i.e. extends from the optic chiasma to the mamillary body and formed by a group of nuclei in the wall and floor of nuclei. It regulates all vegetative and endocrine processes and the most ventral part of the diencephalon.
Functions:
1. It is concerned mainly with the homeostasis of the body.
2. It helps in regulating the various function of the body like endocrine function, visceral function, metabolic activities, sleep, thirst, sleep, hunger, wakefulness, sexual functions, etc.
Regulation of hunger and intake of food takes place by two centers i.e. food center and satiety center. Stimulation of the feeding center leads to the uncontrollable hunger the obesity and destruction of this center cause anorexia. This center always remains active whereas the satiety center is just opposite of it. In this after food intake causes temporary inhibition of feeding centers. They regulate water balance in the body by activating thirst centers and through osmoreceptors in the supraoptic nucleus.
Decrease body water--->Plasma hypertonicity-->Thirst centers---> water ingestion---> normal restoration of body water
Decrease body water---> Plasma hypertonicity---> Osmoreceptors in supraoptic nucleus--->Post pituitary---->ADH increase----> Decrease urinary water
Cerebrum is reponsible for creative thinking and conciousness.
