Q. Hydrolytic enzymes are found in

AMUAMU 2006

Solution:

A lysosome may contain upto 40 types of hydrolytic enzymes. They include proteases (ie, for protein digestion), nucleases, glycosidases, lipases, phospholipases, phosphatases and sulphatases. All lysosomal enzymes are acid hydrolases, optimally active at pH-5 maintained within lysosome. The acid dependency of lysosomal enzymes protects the contents of the cytosol $( pH \sim 7.2)$ against any damage even if leakage of lysosomal enzymes should occur.
Ribosomes are chemically composed of RNA and proteins as their major constituents. Ribosome is the site of protein synthesis.
Peroxisomes have a single limiting unit membrane of lipid and protein molecules which encloses their granular matrix. These are meant for $H _{2} O _{2}$ metabolism, glycolate cycle and $\beta$-oxidation of fatty acid.
