Q. Hydrolysis is a...............reaction and in glycolysis at ............... steps the ATP is hydrolyzed.

Solution:

Hydrolysis is decomposition or cleavage reaction and it is necessary for the digestion of large nutrient molecules. In glycolysis at two places the ATP gets hydrolyzed. In the first step, where glucose is converted to glucose-6-phosphate one molecule of ATP is hydrolyzed to ADP and in the third step, fructose-6-phosphate is converted to fructose-1,6 biphosphate, another molecule of ATP is hydrolyzed to ADP.
