KEAMKEAM 2003

Solution:

The reaction of $ {{H}_{2}}{{\text{O}}_{2}} $ with $ KMn{{O}_{4}} $ and $ {{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}} $ is as follows: $ \overset{+7}{\mathop{2KMn{{O}_{4}}}}\,+3{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}+5{{H}_{2}}{{O}_{2}}\xrightarrow{{}}{{K}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}} $ $ +\overset{+2}{\mathop{2MnS{{O}_{4}}}}\,+8{{H}_{2}}O+\overset{0}{\mathop{5{{O}_{2}}}}\, $ Here, $ {{H}_{2}}{{O}_{2}} $ acts as a reducing agent and it reduced to $ KMn{{O}_{4}} $ to $ M{{n}^{2+}} $ ion.
