Q. How many water molecules present in $CuSO _{4} \cdot 5 H _{2} O$ are hydrogen bonded?

Solution:

The $CuSO _{4} \cdot 5 H _{2} O$ contain five molecules as water of crystallisation by each $CuSO _{4}$ molecule. Out of $5 H _{2} O$ molecules, $4 H _{2} O$ molecules are bonded with the $CuSO _{4}$, (i.e. with $Cu ^{2+}$ ) through coordinate bonds while one of the $H _{2} O$ molecule is bonded through $H$- bond.
