Q. How many grams of nickel can be electroplated from a solution of nickel chloride by $4F$ of electricity?

Chhattisgarh PMTChhattisgarh PMT 2010

Solution:

$NiCl _{2} \xrightarrow{\text { Electrolysis }} Ni ^{2+}+2 Cl ^{-}$
At anode, $2 Cl ^{-} \rightarrow Cl _{2}+2 e^{-}$

$\because 2 F$ electricity deposits $N i=58.6 \,g$
$ \therefore 4F$ electricity will deposit
$N i=\frac{58.6}{2 F} \times 4 F=117.2\, g$
