When carbon combines with oxygen, we may get four oxo carbons or oxides of carbon which are:
Carbon monoxide $\rightarrow C O$
Carbon dioxide $\rightarrow CO _{2}$
Carbon suboxide $\rightarrow C _{3} O _{2}$
Mellitic anhydride $\rightarrow C _{12} O _{9}$
