Q. How does an enzyme catalyze a reaction?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

The enzyme catalyzes a reaction by lowering down the activation energy of the reaction so that the reaction can occur at normal cellular conditions. Activation energy is lowered by using binding energy which is released when substrate binds to the active site of the enzyme to form ES complex. Thus, ES complex formation is very much necessary for enzyme-catalyzed reactions to occur.
