As, fungi are heterotrophic in their mode of nutrition, so they are saprophytic, parasitic and symbiotic. Saprophytic fungi are those which grow on dead organic matter (Mucor). Parasitic fungi obtain their food from living hosts (Erysiphe). Symbiotic fungi (Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes) live in symbiotic association with algae and form lichen thalli.
