Q. Heterocysts in Nostoc

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

Heterocysts in Nostoc are large clear cells without chlorophyll. They have enzyme nitrogenase which helps in nitrogen fixation. In Nostoc, they are not situated terminally (at the ends) but are interspersed between the photosynthetic cells. Since they are clear, they are also called hyaline cells.
