Q. Heat of combustion of methane is $ - 800 \,kJ $ . What is the heat of combustion for $ 4 \times 10^{-4}\, kg $ of methane ?

Solution:

$\underset{16\,g}{CH_{4}}+2O_{2} \to CO_{2} +2H_{2}O ; \Delta H_{c} = -800\,KJ$

$\because$ Heat of combustion of $16 \times 10^{-3} kg$

$CH _{4}=-800 \,kJ$

$\therefore $ Heat of combustion of $4 \times 10^{-4} kg CH _{4}$ will be

$=-\frac{800 \times 4 \times 10^{-4}}{16 \times 10^{-3}}$

$=-20 \,kJ$
