Q. Haloalkanes contain halogen atom(s) attached to the $sp^3$ hybridised carbon atom of an alkyl group. Identify haloalkane from the following compounds,
(i) 2-Bromopentane
(ii) Vinyl chloride
(iii) 2-Chloroacetophenone
(iv) Trichlorom

Haloalkanes and Haloarenes

Solution:

When an hydrogen atom in an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon is replaced by halogen atoms then the compounds are termed as haloalkanes. It is attached to an $sp ^{3}$ hybridized atom of an alkyl group. Haloalkanes haves all the chemical bonds attached to the carbon atoms in single bonds and the halogen atom is attached to a single carbon atom.
Examples ; 2- Bromopentane and Trichloromethane.
