Q. $H _2+ CO +\text { alkene } \xrightarrow{\text { catalyst }} 1^0 \text { alcohol }$

TS EAMCET 2021

Solution:

Hydroformylation, also called oxo synthesis or oxo process is an industrial process for the production of aldehyde from alkene.
So, stable intermediate is aldehyde.
On further, aldehyde react with catalyst to reduced the aldehyde into $1^{\circ}$ alcohol.
Hence, nature of the reaction is reduction reaction. Alkenes combine with $CO$ and $H _2$ in presence of octacarbonyl dicobalt as catalyst to form aldehyde which can be further reduced to alcohols by hydrogen.
