Glycolysis (Embden-Meyerhof pathway) is the series of biochemical reactions in which glucose is broken down to pyruvate with the release of usable energy in the form of ATP. The energy yield is two moleucles of ATP per glucose molecule. It occurs in cytoplasm and is common to both aerobic and anaerobic respiration.
