Q. Given the molecular formula of the hexacoordinated complexes (A) $[Co Cl_{3}.6NH_{3}]$
(B) $[Co Cl_{3}.5NH_{3}]$
(C) $CoCl_{3}.4NH_{3}.$ If the number of coordinated $NH_3$ molecules in $A, B$ and $C$ respectively are $6, 5$ and $4$, the primary valency in (A), (B) and (C) are:

Coordination Compounds

Solution:

The complexes can be written as follows
$\underset{(A)}{[Co(NH_{3})_{6}]Cl_{3}} \underset{(B)}{[Co(NH_{3})_{5}Cl]Cl_{2}} \underset{(C)}{[Co (NH_{3})_{4}Cl_{4}]Cl}$
Hence, number of primary valencies are 3, 2 and 1 respectively
